**The Unit outline is subject to change at any time due to time management or other reasons deemed necessary to benefit the class. **

GRADING POLICY:

According to Fulton County Policy, the following scale is used: 90-100 = (A), 80-90 = (B), 70-80 = (C), 0-69 = (F). Grades are weighted as follows

9 Unit Tests 50%
Homework 15%
Class Actives (ex. Labs, quizzes, and simulations) 15%
1 Project 5%
EOCT (state mandated) 15%

MAKE-UP POLICY:

Attendance is critical. It is your responsibility to come to me regarding work missed during an excused absence. I would like as much notice as possible for scheduled absences.

Homework: All missed assignments are due the day after student returns. Work that was due on the day absent must be turned in the day you return. If you are at school any part of the day (check in or check out) your work is still due that day. Homework should be completed before class; late homework will be accepted for half credit only. No late work will accepted for that unit after the unit test.

Tests: Tests are to be made up in class the day a student returns from an absence if you are absent on a test day. If you are absent the day before a test, you will still take the test on schedule. I reserve the option to change make up tests to essay format. All 8 tests include graphics, multiple choice, and essay.

EXPECTATIONS:

I expect your best. All materials necessary should be brought to class, as you will not be allowed to return to your locker. Each student will be required to keep a notebook. All work should be original; any student caught violating the school honor code will earn a zero for that assignment, a form in their file, and the required office referral. Economics is required for graduation and the state mandated EOCT is required for course credit. It must count 15% of your grade.

FYI last semester Chattahoochee had a 90.9% passing rate on the Economics ECOT!

Cheating and Plageriarism:

The Social Studies department considers academic integrity a top priority. ANY copying or sharing of answers on homework, class work assignments, tests, or projects will be viewed as cheating by the Social Studies Department. Plagiarism, as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is “the act of stealing and using the work ideas or writings of another as one’s own.” Although direct copying of another’s work is the most blatant example, any time a student takes another’s ideas and “rephrases”: the material, they must note the source. If in doubt, ask in advance. The consequences for cheating or plagiarism on any assignment are outlined in the handbook. (Will result in a zero grade on the assignment and an honor code referral for all parties involved and possible office referral as well).

**Other Information about the class will be given orally and students will be responsible for knowledge of the given material. Take good notes and ask good questions! **

DISCIPLINE:

Chattahoochee Student Handbook outlining Fulton County policies apply.

RECOVERY:

I adhere to the Fulton County Board of Education Recovery Policy.

Recovery is an opportunity for a student to demonstrate competence and mastery of objectives. In order to be eligible for recovery, a student must have completed all assigned work and demonstrated a genuine effort, including attendance on time.

Students are responsible for contacting the teacher concerning recovery opportunities. Teachers will establish, at their discretion and the concurrence of the department head, a reasonable time period for recovery work to be completed during the semester. All recovery work must be completed prior to the last 10 school days of the semester. There will be only one recovery opportunity per failed major assignment or test.

Projects:

Project Possibilities: College Project (power point), Stock Market Project, Current Events Notebook (on going throughout the semester), Book Analysis (Economic Murder Mysteries). Personal Budgeting Project

Emergency Exit/ Fire Drill Procedures:

Take a right out of the classroom. Exit the building out the gym lobby doors to the parking lot continue down the steps at the arch and onto the TRACK. Roll call will be taken. A tardy will be earned for failure to meet roll call. Our safety is important. My stadium evacuation plan is the same route, but I am the last, back row next to the press box closest to the school.
